Embracing your season of singleness //Part 2

In part two of my ‘singleness mini-series’, carrying on from my last post, I want to share with you a few more of my thoughts on this important subject:

Thought 5: We must be patient
Good things come to those who wait. We must remember that what we think is perfect timing, isn’t always God’s perfect timing. Therefore, we must be patient and trust His timing. We don’t know God’s plan for our future, but we do know that it will be good and will be what’s best for us, so If it is His will for us to marry one day, He will bring the right man into our lives at the right time.

Thought 6: We need to pray about it
Marriage is such a huge and important decision to make and so we need to make sure that we are asking God whether it is His will for us to marry, and for His guidance on who it is that He wants us to marry. We need to pray that God would prepare us for our future husbands, if that is His will for us and we need to pray for our future husbands, that the Lord would prepare him for us also.

Thought 7: We need to make sure we don’t let the devil ruin our single years
If we are spending our single years anxious, sad and like we are unnoticed by God because He hasn’t given us ‘the one’ yet, or that God doesn’t care for our desires, we are believing the lies of the devil. The devil sees our single years and period of waiting as an opportune time to make us feel alone, unwanted and worthless. But God is with us in our singleness and He will never leave us. Instead of believing the devil’s lies, we can rest in God’s love, and live in His peace and joy in this time knowing that everything is in His control and that He is the only One who will truly satisfy.

Thought 8: Singleness is not permanent
Many of us who are single now will marry one day. Others of us may remain single throughout our whole lives. But no Christian will stay single forever. Human marriage only reflects the marriage God wants to enjoy with His people forever. In Hosea 2:19-20 we read that God says, ‘I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy; I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the Lord,’ and Isaiah 54:5 says, ‘For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name…’ Whether we marry on this earth or not, one day we will be our Maker’s bride and He will be our bridegroom forever. Marriage on earth is only temporary, but this marriage – between our Lord and His people – is eternal.

Isaiah 30:18 - “Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him.
