The Significance of the Cross

On this Easter weekend and as we reflect on the death and resurrection of our LORD and Saviour, Jesus Christ, I want to look at the cross and its significance. The cross is a HUGE topic, and I won’t be able to cover it all, but I hope to just capture some of the main points that Jesus’ death and resurrection accomplished. The cross of Jesus is central to the Christian faith. It reveals to us God’s character: His love for lost sinners, His perfect mercy and grace and His redemptive heart. He sent his one and only Son to die the most horrific death on a cross to show us just how much He loved us. If we want to grow in our love for God, which is the first and greatest commandment, we must understand and appreciate fully the significance of the cross and what Christ did for us. So what happened when Jesus died on the cross, and rose again three days later? 1)       God’s presence was made available to all We read in Matthew 27:51 that when Jesus died, ‘’ the veil of the temple

How can a loving God allow suffering?

In this post I’m going to be tackling a question which almost everyone asks at some point in their life, Christian, or not - How can a loving God allow suffering? I definitely don’t have all the answers, and I won’t be able to answer all the questions people have on this topic, but based on what I see from the Bible, I’m going to share with you some of my thoughts: 1)       Suffering isn’t from God It’s important to realise that suffering isn’t from God, but from the Devil. When God finished creating the world, we read in Genesis 1:31 that, ‘’God saw everything that He made, and indeed it was very good.’’ God made everything good, which means he did not create sin or suffering. Sin is neither substance, spirit, being nor matter so cannot be created. We read further on in Genesis: ‘’And the LORD commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you sha

Living Fearlessly

We live in a world with so much to fear and so many things we get anxious about. You hear the news and it’s barely ever positive - stories of terrorist attacks, suicide bombings, murder, rape and death; or you look around you and see illness, debt, homelessness and relationship breakdowns. Amongst these things, how can we NOT be afraid? But still Jesus commands us, ‘Do not fear.’ Instead, He wants us to live a life of liberty in Him, but fear stops us. I read something the other day that I want to share with you: ‘While we’re distracted with fear, the enemy pickpockets our purpose, cripples our courage, dismantles our dreams and blinds us to the beauty of the LORD’s plans.’ I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to give the devil pleasure in making me fearful, so below I’m going to share 4 practical tips which will hopefully help you to not be afraid and to begin the life of freedom that Christ has for you: 1)       Discover the root of your fears We’re all afraid of some

Confidence in Christ

Recently I’ve been really struggling with having confidence in myself and who God made me to be. I understand who God says I am in my head, but I don’t think I honestly believe it in my heart all the time. I think is the same with many Christians, because, if we’re really honest, deep down, we still don’t feel good enough or worthy of what God says about us. We still feel insecure. Because if we truly believed what He says about us, we’d have a confidence about who we are that couldn’t be shaken! Acts 4:13 says, ‘’ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.’’ Peter and John’s confidence was noticed to be different to normal confidence and people recognized that it was because they had been with Jesus. I don’t know about you, but I want that kind of confidence! Confidence which only comes from knowing and spending time with Jesus. That comes from having

Modesty: More than what you wear

So, this may be a slightly controversial topic for my first blog post to be about, but it is a subject I have been thinking about a lot lately, and am really passionate about, so I’m just going to go for it! My aunt owns a bridal shop, and at the weekend I was listening to her telling my other aunt about teenage girls who have been coming into her shop to order their prom dresses for the summer. I was listening to her telling my aunt how they come in asking for 'that side slit to be higher’ and the ‘neckline to be lower’ and the ‘back to be dropped’ until I was wondering whether they would have any dress left! This really got me thinking, though, about how the standard of dressing in our society these days is so low! More and more girls are going out wearing less and less, and most people don’t even bat an eyelid! But I believe that as Christian women, we should be different. That as Believers, we have an example to set. So, what is modesty? I love the quote ‘Modesty isn
