God wants to use you
Some people think that they have to be perfect for God to use them.
They come up with a long list of reasons why God wouldn’t want to use them –
they’re ‘’too young’’, ‘’not qualified or educated enough’’, ‘’not holy
enough’’, ‘’too weak’’, ‘’too insecure’’, and the list goes on. But the truth
is, God wants to use us all. He doesn’t wait until we are perfect. If that were
the case, He couldn’t use us, as we aren’t perfect, and never will be. Instead,
He uses us in our weaknesses.
We read in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, where Paul is writing to a
church in Corinth and telling them what the LORD said to him, ‘’ But He said to
me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’
Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that
Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in
weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For
when I am weak, then I am strong.’’
Paul is saying here, that he gladly boasts in His weaknesses, his
hardships and even his insults, because they allow God’s power to work through
Him! What an amazing attitude to have, but what a challenge! We don’t usually
go around shouting about the things we’re not good at – ‘’You’re good at that?
Oh, well I’m rubbish at it!’’– it’s just not something we do, because the world
views weakness as a bad thing. But here, in the Bible, we read that we should acknowledge
our weaknesses as areas which allow God’s strength to shine through us.
Look at the people God used in the Bible:
Adam was a blame shifter
Isaiah preached naked
Abraham was ‘’too old’’
Sarah laughed at God’s promise and was impatient
Moses was a slow speaker and had a temper
David had an affair and tried to cover it up with murder
Rahab was a prostitute
Solomon was too rich
Jonah ran from God
Jacob was a cheat
Peter had a temper and denied knowing Jesus
Noah got drunk
Paul was a murderer and persecutor of Christians
Gideon was insecure
Naomi was a widow
Thomas doubted
Elijah was suicidal
Martha worried
Zacchaeus was too small
Miriam was a gossip
Job went bankrupt
Timothy was ill
Isaac was a daydreamer
Joseph was abused and sold as a slave
And Lazarus was dead.
If God can use these people, He can use you!
A quote I love says: ‘God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the
called.’’ We don’t have to be ‘ready’ for God to use us. He’ll call us and then
prepares us according to His plan and purpose.
God doesn’t mind using the outcasts and the people the
world says aren’t good enough. In fact, God loves and chooses to use broken
people. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 says, ‘for
consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly
standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose
what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the
world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world,
even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human
being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ
Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and
redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the
Lord.”
God doesn’t choose the noble or wise, the powerful and
popular, He chooses the weak, the foolish and those who are low and despised in
this world. And praise God He does!
Don’t believe the lies of the devil that God doesn’t,
can’t and won’t use you because He can and will use you, and He does it for His
pleasure: ‘for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good
pleasure.’ He loves to use His people! I know I used to think that God wasn’t
using me, and only used the ‘’super spiritual’’ people. But as I got older, I
realised that those people were just as broken and just as weak as the rest of
us, they just allowed God to use them in their weaknesses. Now I can definitely
say that God has used me in many areas of my life – including this blog, and
just through being me! But we do it in our weakness, and in God’s strength,
because Philippians 4:13 says: ‘I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me.’
God has a plan and a purpose for your life, and nothing
or no one can stop that. So go out and let God use you. He wants to use you, so
ask Him to. And soon, you will begin to see Him using you in ways you had never
dreamed or imagined.
Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in
them.”
